DAY 1 & 2: TORONTO – BANGKOKFly from Toronto and connect with a transpacific flight to Bangkok via Hong Kong. You will lose one day as you cross the international dateline. Meals and entertainment served in flight. DAY 3: BANGKOK (D)Arrive in Bangkok, the “City of Angels”. After customs and immigration formalities, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to relax and acclimatize with your surroundings. In the evening, you will have a welcome dinner at the hotel. Overnight at Trange Hotel (3 star) or similar. DAY 4: BANGKOK (B/L/D)Begin your day with an early morning excursion to one of the most authentic and colourful Floating Markets in the Kingdom. It is located at Damnern Saduak, a district in the Ratchaburi Province. En route you will also visit a home-made sugar palm house. This afternoon, enjoy a guided tour of the city including a visit to three of the most famous monasteries in Thailand. Experience the beauty of these spectacular yet delicate architectural works of art: the Marble Temple, the Reclining Buddha Temple and the Golden Buddha Temple. In the evening, enjoy an authentic Thai dinner in a delightful, typical Thai atmosphere. The meal will be accompanied by Thai classical music and dances. The dancers with their beautiful glittering costumes and exquisite, graceful movements will create a long lasting memory. DAY 5: BANGKOK (B)Entire day is at leisure for personal sightseeing and shopping. DAY 6: BANGKOK – CHIANG MAI (B/L)Depart Bangkok after breakfast. Transfer to the train station and depart by train for Chiang Mai, arriving in the late afternoon. Chiang Mai is a city built on the roots of a traditional heritage that dig deep into the soil of time. Named ‘Rose of the North’ for the abundance of flowers that live in the cooler mountain climate, it has grown from its origins as a small northern Lanna capital to become a city representative of modern Thai culture. In the evening enjoy a superb northern Thai dinner accompanied by charming northern dances and hill tribe shows performed by Akha, Yao, Lahu, Meo, Lisu and Karen tribes people. Overnight at Downtown Inn (3 star) or similar. DAY 7: CHIANG MAI (B)Today’s tour of the city includes a visit to the 700-year-old Wat Chiang Mun, the oldest monastery in Chiang Mai built by King Mangrai, Wat Phra Sing (AD 1345) where you will see the 1,500-year-old Buddha image and Wat Suan Dok (AD 1371) which houses the remains of many generations of former Chiang Mai's Royal Family. The rest of your day is at leisure. DAY 8: CHIANG MAI – CHIANG RAI (B/D)This morning you will visit an Elephant Camp. Watch a unique performance and exciting football match by energetic young elephants, see them taking a playful bath in the river before giving a demonstration of how they were trained to haul lumber in the forest, and marvel at the interesting paintings made by these intelligent elephants. Don’t miss the optional elephant ride around the jungle (not included). A stop is made at a delightful orchid and butterfly farm. After this tour, travel by coach to Chiang Rai, home of the “Golden Triangle”. It has a wealth of historical interest that goes back to the late 13th century. Chiang Rai is a highland marked with towering mountain ranges, peaceful jungle rivers and quiet villages such as Yao and Akha Villages. Overnight at the Golden Triangle Inn (3 star) or similar. DAY 9: CHIANG RAI – BANGKOK (B)Depart in the early morning to the famous Golden Triangle, where Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet. This area was renowned for centuries as the centre of the opium trade. From a hilltop viewpoint, marvel at the splendor of the mighty Mekhong and Ruak Rivers which meet at the boundary of the three countries. After lunch, take a long-tailed boat to Don Sao Island (Laos) to see the handicraft market. Return to Chiang Rai and transfer to the airport for your departure to Bangkok via Thai Airways (TG143 at 2025 and arrive at 2140). Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to the airport hotel (by shuttle bus). DAY 10: BANGKOK – HONG KONG – TORONTO – HALIFAX (B)After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight back to Canada. INCLUSIONS:
