Germany, Czech Republic & AustriaDAY 1: Toronto – BerlinDepart Toronto this evening on a wide-bodied overnight flight bound for Berlin DAY 2: Berlin (D)Arrive in Berlin. After you have cleared immigration and customs you will be transferred to your downtown hotel. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure to adjust to the time change and to absorb the surroundings. Berlin is arguably one of the most important European cities historically. It has undergone significant changes from both the Nazi and the Cold War eras. “No city on Earth has undergone such a roller-coaster ride from villain to victim, from horrors to heroics”. This deep historical past has made Berlin the fourth most visited tourist destination in Europe. Meet this evening for a traditional German welcome dinner. DAY 3: Berlin (B)After breakfast, enjoy a morning city tour and see for yourself what has made Berlin such a world class city. Take special note of the former Berlin Wall which once divided east and west and was a symbol of Cold War hostilities. It has since become a bicycle path. Also enjoy Potsdamer Platz. The former Cold War relic has been transformed into a showcase of modern architecture. Take the afternoon to prepare for your evening performance. DAY 4: Berlin – Leipzig - Dresden (B/D)This morning you will be taken to Dresden and en route, there will be a city tour of Leipzig. Leipzig was founded in 1015 and has always been known as a place of commerce. The Leipzig Trade Fair, which began in the middle ages, became an event of international importance; especially as a point of contact to the East-European economic bloc. Included in the tour is a visit to St. Thomas Church. This church is renowned for being the place where Johan Bach worked as a cantor. In 1539, the famous Martin Luther preached at St. Thomas and it has since become a Lutheran church. Continue to Dresden after the tour and enjoy a group dinner and overnight. DAY 5: Dresden - Prague (B/D)Begin the day with a morning tour of Dresden. Dresden has a long history as capital and Royal residence for the Kings of Saxony with centuries of extraordinary cultural and artistic splendor. During WWII, Dresden underwent very controversial bombings which changed the face of the city. After the tour, continue to Prague and upon arrival enjoy a group dinner and overnight. DAY 6: Prague (B)Since pre-historic times, Prague has been an important trade center. Its location at the Vltava river in the center of Europe proved ideal. It became the political center of Bohemia, and in the 10th century, it also became a religious center. In the 14th century, Prague had become the most important city of Central Europe. After emperor Charles IV had all the city gates' roofs covered with lead, Prague was dubbed the 'Golden City'. It would remain one of the most influential cities in Europe until the 20th century. Today 'the City of a Hundred Spires' is a magnet for tourists, with numerous magnificent towers and churches. This morning enjoy a sightseeing tour of Prague taking in the beauty of sights such as Prague Castle with St. Vitus Cathedral, Lesser Town Square and St. Nicolas Church, Charles Bridge over Vltava river, Old Town Square and Prague´s Astrological Clock Take the rest of the day to prepare for an evening performance. DAY 7: Prague – Cesky Krumlow - Salzburg (B/D)Today you continue south to Salzburg via the city of Cesky Krumlov which was added to the list of the world’s natural and cultural heritage UNESCO in 1992. The city is dominated by the Castle of Cescky Krumlov, founded in the 13th century, it is the second largest in Bohemia. This complex of forty buildings and palaces is situated around five castle courts and a castle park spanning an area of seven hectares. Continue to Salzburg for dinner and overnight. DAY 8: Salzburg (B)After breakfast there will be a walking tour of Salzburg. Salzburg is a baroque city on the banks of the Salzach River, set against a mountain backdrop. In 1756, Mozart was born here. Salzburg is also where “Silent Night” and “The Sound of Music” originated. These three classical staples have made Salzburg a front-ranking cultural Mecca for classical music. This morning’s tour will focus on Mozart Geburtshaus (Mozart’s Birthplace). This house contains exhibition rooms and the apartment of the Mozart family. Take the afternoon at your leisure to prepare for an evening concert. DAY 9: Salzburg - Munich (B/D)Say goodbye to Austria as we depart for Germany. En route to Munich, you will be taken back in time with a visit to the Salt mines in Berchtesgaden. You will be taken underground and are certain to be astonished, as the transparent colors of the rock salt lights up. This tour will have you taken down chutes, through caves and traverse underground rivers. In the afternoon, continue to Munich for a city tour. Munich is one of Germany’s most festive cities. Despite severe wartime bombings, Munich has been rebuilt and has become known for its folkloric culture. No other German city has contributed as much to the arts, literature, or music as this former capital of a former kingdom. Munich is a city of superlatives, offering more of just about everything. Tonight, enjoy traditional Bavarian fare during your farewell dinner.
