Planning a trip

There is no doubting the educational merits of travel for any student. Organizing an international tour can take a great deal of preparation. There are several steps that should be followed in order to simplify the process:

  1. Choose a variety of destinations that appeal to both you and your students, keeping in mind the various curricular requirements.
  2. Sample various itineraries for these destinations and determine, keeping in mind value, educational exposure, and cost, which would best suit the needs of your group.
  3. Start with a basic itinerary and customize to your liking (By adding attractions, day trips etc.).
  4. Add your trip inclusions (meals, hotel location/caliber, etc.).
  5. Present the package to the administration for approval.
  6. Promote the trip to students and parents (A representative from Student Travel Society will gladly answer and questions and attend any parent meeting in the Greater Toronto and surrounding areas).

Supervision and chaperones are of the utmost importance. At STS, we offer the option of having either one teacher for every six to ten students. We can also include the services of a full time bilingual tour manager to assist the group while traveling.

If you are worried about collecting money, let us take that burden from you. We can arrange a payment schedule and collect post-dated cheques from the individuals within the group. We realize that there are enough responsibilities for the teachers so we will do as much as we can to alleviate the stress associated with the organization process.

No two trips are the same and every tour leader has different requirements. Each tour that we design will be given individual attention in order to ensure that all elements are accounted for. From planning until departure, trips can take anywhere from 8 to 16 months to plan.
